A Line of Reasoning

I've got a new job! More money than I need, 10 minutes from my apartment, and paid schooling til I quit, or die. It's everything I've ever wanted.

I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy as a clam. I can finally afford a new car. (Anyone want to come to a demolition derby?) Also, no more debt. It will take me 3, 4, 5 years to get my degree, but I'll be debt, or mostly debt, free by then.

Maybe that's the other shoe. It'll be a long time til I'm done. Not that I mind though.

Ah, screw the other shoe. I like being barefoot anyway.

2 Weeks...

... or so Fran says. *Apparently* Sue has all the applications (6 of them I believe) that she has to interview. If she starts today on them, Fran says it'd take a week to schedule/do all the interviews, and a week to decide. So, if Sue does the exact opposite of what she normally does, I'll know about this job in 2 weeks. If she does what she normally does, it'll be August. Or sometime in November. ("Can I flip it!?")

Saturday was Who-doesn't-love-Audrey day. She graduated college with an art degree of sorts. She hopes to teach someday. I loveses her. I have every intention of visiting her in Philly sometime in these summerish months.

The World Cup is over. I really enjoyed watching it and all the games leading up to it. My roommies have definitely addicted me to it. First sport I've ever really enjoyed.

It's a pirates life for me

So, last night around 6, Arman wants to know if I want to see the midnight showing of Pirates of the Caribbean for free. You see, his cousins work there and can get us in free. Last time I was there I saw MI:3 and The Davinci Code, pro bono. Anywho, though seeing a movie at midnight would have me a rough morning, who could say no? So, I did. We left about 10:45, even though it's only supposed to take 30 minutes to get there. Fortunately, we did leave early.

Event 1: We hit traffic. Ridiculous traffic. Apparently road construction needed to close off 3 of the 4 lanes on 495. It took us a half hour to move 1 mile. I was not amused. Fortunately, we finally got passed it and I drove fast. Since we didn't get there soon enough, Arman's cousins had to buy us our tickets. Oh well. We got there just in time. About an hour in to the movie, something that I didn't know *actually* happened, happened.

Event 2: The film caught fire. Really really. Right at this all intense moment (which I won't tell you about because you all need to see the movie) it got all warbly and out of focus, then, well, it was just like you've seen on TV. The movies screen was covered with the melted frame of a strip of film. Fortunately, we picked the theater with the yuppy high schoolers.

Event 3: During the resulting 20+ minute "intermission" while they reset the film, someone dared another guy to take of his shirt and dance in front of the room. 20 bucks. Oh, and he did it, twirling his shirt around his head like a helicopter, man-boobs and all. Finally the movie got going.

Event 4: The film stopped again. Like a minute later. Moans, groans, and "WTF!" ensued. After a few minutes some girl from the theater came in, apparently with an official apology for the whining crowd.

Event 5: She started to cry. I don't know why. She choked up. Fortunately another guy entered and promised free passes for all for our next visit. All was calm again. The movie resumed, ended (with quite an interesting ending might I add...), we got our free passes, and left. I gave Arman's two cousins a lift to their house.

Event 6: Do not make an illegal left-hand turn while running a red light at 3 in the morning in Rockville when there are 2 cops sitting at that intersection. I considered taking off my shirt and winking, but seeing as I was wearing my pirate-ish bandanna, I felt something might get lost in the translation. Also, this was apparently the most patrolled street in the city. While sitting there, 3 other cops passed. Five cops, one intersection. Do I have luck, or what? Fortunately, the cop who handled my ticket felt that running a red-light at such and hour wasn't such a big deal. $80 for the illegal turn.

Traffic home was swell, I got 4 hours of sleep, and now I'm eating a hamburger on an english muffin.

YOHO!

It's so muggy outside. I hate muggy. I generally hate high temperatures in general. Unless it's in a sauna. Or in my pants. OH!

CMSC 250 bores me. I get it and all, but it's just so boring. Which reminds I should be doing my homework.

I really wish CTS would call me about this job. It's been like 3? weeks. Hopefully that'll mean all the other applicants will get bored and move on. MOVE ON! I WANT THE JOB!

I've been playing alot of World of Warcraft lately. My friend and co-worker Joe is the guild master on another server and in talking to me about it all has gotten me re-addicted. I really shouldn't play too much though. I'm gonna get carpal tunnel.
Epilogue

Every second we live is a new and unique moment of the universe,
a moment that never was before and will never be again.
And what do we teach our children in school?
We teach them that two and two make four...
and that Paris is the capital of France.
When will we also tech them what they are?
We should say to each of them: 'Do you know what you are?'
You are a marvel. You are unique.
In all of the world there is no other child exactly like you.
In the millions of years that have passed
there has never been another child like you.
And look at your body -- what a wonder it is!
Your legs, your arms, your cunning fingers, the way you move!
You may become a Shakespeare, a Michelangelo, a Beethoven.
You have the capacity for anything.
Yes, you are a marvel.
And when you grow up, can you then harm another who is like you, a marvel.
You must cherish one another.
You must work
- we all must work -
to make this world worthy of its children.

-Pablo Casals

From Matisse, a meme:

1. Grab the nearest book.

2. Open the book to page 123.

3. Find the fifth sentence.

4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.

5. Don't search around and look for the coolest book you can find. Do what's actually next to you.

"Still there was no answer."

Meant To Live
by Switchfoot

Fumbling his confidence
And wondering why the world has passed him by
Hoping that he's bent for more than arguments
And failed attempts to fly, fly

[Chorus]
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
Somewhere we live inside
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside

Dreaming about Providence
And whether mice or men have second tries
Maybe we've been livin with our eyes half open
Maybe we're bent and broken, broken

[Chorus]

We want more than this world's got to offer
We want more than this world's got to offer
We want more than the wars of our fathers
And everything inside screams for second life, yeah

We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live
We were meant to live
